This model was constructed using a single sheet of foil-
covered cardboard, dowels and wire, with nails for anchors.
It is supported at the centre point only.
Parallel pleating suspension dome

This model was constructed using spandex, wood and wire,
with nails for anchors.
It is supported by cables from a single overhead catenary

This model was constructed using a bicycle wheel rim, a
dustbin liner, string, green wire, orange cotton, wood,
paper clips and neodymium magents.
In each case, the models are based on the same principle
that suspension bridges use - in the hope of producing
designs that make extremely large clear spans
possible.
